Osteopathy - What to expect

During your first consultation, an extensive medical history will usually be taken. This is to eliminate any problems that would be better dealt with by a doctor and to help make an accurate diagnosis of the problem. If osteopathy is appropriate, an examination will then be carried out to make a full assessment. The person will be considered as a whole and so posture and gait are often considered.

How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments that are needed depends very much on the nature of the problem. Some acute problems can be dealt with in one or two sessions, chronic problems may take a longer course of treatment and there are many people who see their osteopath periodically on a maintenance basis.
